Candela

Candela means candle, but when we say “échale candela” in music we’re saying set it on fire, pull out all the stops. When we say “dale candela,” we’re saying give them hell. It is a word for passion, a word for protest.

Generally “drum throne” is reserved for a seat at a drum kit. Our Afro-Caribbean percussion doesn’t often get the same respect. And so it is my honor to bestow this drum with a seat worthy of its impact.

Cherry toned with layers of color inspired by Majó (Blue Mahoe). Hong Kong seagrass woven seat. Hand cut joinery, bent lamination, brick lay, hand carved shaping and details.

Designed originally for use with hand-struck percussion, but is equally at home as an accent or occasional chair.

  • Hand-carved sculptural design for a powerful, textural experience

  • Contoured lumbar support provides comfortable rest while promoting good posture between sets.

  • Level seat promotes active position.

  • Hand-woven seat offers traditional comfort for sitz bones.

  • Solid hand-cut mortise-and-tenon joinery for a chair that's up to the task and provide many years of use

  • Lightweight frame makes chair easy to move around.

  • Front stretcher curves away from opening so it doesn't get in the way of drumming.
